MISE EN SCENE - 
Setting - A house, the woods and a street 
Hair and make up - In dream sequence, the dying people are going to have blood and look very pale 
Costume - I want the costume to be very naturalistic as i don't want it to look 'fake'. i want it to look realistic and as if it has actually happened. 
Lighting - Again i would like it to be naturalistic however i would preferably like it a bit cool toned as it will give it an on edge feeling 
Character expression and movement - The character is going to be very tense and restless therefore they will be out of breath from running and show fear on they're face 
Props - A pill 

  CINEMATOGRAPHY -  
Whip pan - running through different places - from the house, to the street, to the woods 

  SOUND - i will include both diagetic and non diagetic sound. 
Diagetic - a few lines of dialogue,  
Non diagetic - voice over and music 
  
EDITING - continuity editing, match on action

GENRE - Horror 
My short film is going to share many horror conventions such as there being a victim, blood, killing,disturbing setting.This will relate to Daniel chandlers conventions of content theory. i initially wanted to do horror after watching the fly and the graphic special affects makeup it includes. by choosing to include special effects makeup helps make the audience uncomfortable and helps increase how uncomfortable they feel therefore increasing the impact it has on the audience. 
  
NARRATIVE - Linear narrative, Todorrovs narrative equilibrium theory  
Normal life, doesn't take nightmare pill - dream sequence - wakes up 
--> Repetitive shot of taking the pill every afternoon/evening 
--> Wants to see what happens if he does not take it 
--> Falls asleep and has a nightmare, someone is after him (never finds out who or what it is), as he is running through the woods he sees dead people and someone says "it is coming" 
-->Wakes up really out of breath and everything is normal 
--> Goes to get water and looks out of the window to see an injured person that he saw in the dream 
--> The screen goes black 

AUDIENCE - my preferred reading to the audience is for them to feel uncomfortable and slightly on edge as this will have the biggest initial impact on them making them remember the film.

Recreating a Love Actually scene EVALUATION: Firstly i decided to keep the mise-en-scene very similar to the real scene in Love Actually therefore all cast costume was smart; the prime minister and Terrence were in suits and Annie, Pat and Natalie were in smart clothes. Again i wanted the character expression and movement, make up and setting very similar to how it was in the original scene as i believe if any element were different to the original scene it would alter the narrative. The lighting was hard to construct as for half of the filming i used natural lighting and for the second half we had to use the remaining natural light and then introduce some artificial light which did not work as well as planned as you could clearly see where the light was pointing at. In the future i would try and find better ways of artificial lighting rather than a torch or asses my shot choices. I wanted to include an invisible shot to a more cinematic approach as in the original the shots

Trying out surrealism... EVALUATION: How does your film conform to the conventions of the film movement you chose? The film movement i chose was surrealism, the conventions of surrealism are an unconventional narrative, juxtaposition for disturbing effect, minimal characterisation and the stimulus is normally dreams and desires. Firstly i decided to have an unconventional narrative, i did this through editing. I made sure there was very little to no continuity to enhance the effect of the lack of narrative. I could have possibly made it even more of a uncanny narrative by introducing different props and ideas. Instead of  having normal mundane food in the picnic basket there could have been a dead bird or I could have include more dubious shots such as a random pig on a bed  however i thought with the shot of the boy on the picnic blanket being the same in the beginning of the film as in the ending it would reflect a dream like interpretation as it is almost like the

Coursework - final idea

final idea  - Everyday this boy takes a pill to stop his nightmares - or that is what he thought  - The man has to take his pill at "9" everyday but takes it late - at "11"one day and Instead of going from the good to the bad quite drastically, i could possibly build it up by the man doing his normal routine e.g. going on a run and then he sees a corpse for a split second, then a shot of his face and then the shot goes back to where the corpse was but its gone.  i could possibly shoot a scene where we see what is happening through the mans eyes but then cross cut it with what is reality - Then the next day he could decide not to take it and he has the major nightmare where everything goes wrong and he is finally able to see what is happening in reality that the pill just suppresses him from seeing what is happening in real life.                    Wakes up in nightmare -  Walks outside normal Sees dead/ injured people Runs through street and woods
